DELTA
The current fishing conditions out on the Delta show very little activity on the striped bass scene. Water clarity and temperatures are major factors for this popular sport fish. The best chance of hooking up with a quality pinstripe is the southern part of the Delta in Middle and Old River into the Discovery Bay area where you will find better water clarity. Some of the better methods are drifting live gold shiners or blue gills or casting artificial lure such as plugs or drop shot swimsuits with a slow retrieve. In Discovery Bay this works off the rip-rap and around the pilings and boat docks in the area. In and around the Rio Vista area a few stripers are being taken off Decker Island and the Light 14 area at anchor tossing cut bait, but most are shakers along with an occasional 20 to 24 inches in the mix. The bite is light and paying attention is essential to having a fair to good day fishing. Sturgeon showing in the west Delta at the usual haunts up into Cache Slough. One day the bite is fair to good and the next day they seem to have lockjaw. When it comes to sturgeon fishing having a little patience and perseverance pays off. The best baits continue to be lamprey eel strips, salmon roe and the basic shrimp baits. When using the eel place a piece of nightcrawler on the tip of the hook for better results.

SAN PABLO BAY
Sturgeon and a few quality striped bass showing in San Pablo Bay in the “Sturgeon Triangle”. Check your tide guide for a daytime minus outgoing tide and anchor your vessel off the Pumphouse in about 12 feet of water with the best action taking place the last 2 hours of the tide. The best bait continues to be mud and ghost shrimp. Striped bass to 17 pounds taken recently along with some quality sturgeon. For current fishing conditions and updates give Keith Fraser a call at Loch Lomond Live Bait in San Rafael located at the Loch Lomond Marina at (415) 456-0321.

LAKE AMADOR
(Ione) The lake is filling to full capacity from the Jackson Creek watershed. The surface water temperature is holding at 56º Mt. Lassen rainbow trout are planted weekly with some trophy fish weighing over 12 pounds. Trolling near the spillway with Rapala’s taking fish to over 7 pounds while fishermen fishing from the dock taking rainbows to over 8 pounds using gold PowerBait. Crappie also showing to 2.5 pounds on grubs.

CAMANCHE LAKE
(Burson) Trouts plants continue every week at the Lake Comanche Recreation Area, with all 1200 pounds of trout release into the North Shore launch ramp area within the past week. This brings the season totals to over 25,500 pounds of Mt. Lassen Rainbow trout. Trollers are finding pretty good action in the Narrows and out by the dam with chrome Rapala’s fished at 20 to 30 feet.

Take time to enjoy the great outdoors. Until next tide stay safe.
