The best bass fishing action seems to be occurring in water approximately 15 feet deep. Be sure to break out your rainbow-colored lures. Jigs, crank baits and night crawlers are among the most successful. The “No-Wake” area in the northwest corner of the lake is proving to be the hot spot for larger bass, between 5 and 8 pounds.

PowerBait is an historical favorite for trout anglers at H.V. Eastman Lake. Some anglers over the week report having successful catches on spinners and spoons. A few crappie weighing up to 1.5 pounds have also been caught on minnows from near the Chowchilla Recreation Area launch ramp.

Be advised that the northeastern portion of the lake behind the buoy line is closed to all water recreation to protect bald eagles that are nesting. Please help the H.V. Eastman Lake staff to support this valuable natural resource by observing the closure. This area will reopen on August 01, 2016.

H.V. Eastman Lake is recognized by the state of California as a Trophy Black Bass Water, and has a special bass limit of one fish per day, 22” or longer. The daily trout limit is five fish of any size, and total panfish daily limit is 25 fish of any size. There is no limit or size restriction on catfish or carp.

We would appreciate your input for future fishing reports. If you have any questions, tips, or pictures of H.V. Eastman Lake fishing success you would like considered for inclusion, please reply to this email, stop by, or call the Ranger Station at (559) 689-3255.
