Keep it short and sweet....

2.5 days over Memorial Day weekend with 26 anglers.

We knew we were coming up against some tough weather conditions for this Memorial Day 2.5, but Capt. Jeff Spafford ended up putting together a winning gameplan in spite of the odds!

Day one started offshore in rough sea conditions with good signs of tuna on the sonar but no schools willing to bite.  Made the call to run into SCI late morning to take some shelter from the weather and load up on some rockfish.  Very good rockfishing was had with plenty of taco stuffers for everyone.  A few anglers hooked up on BIG homeguard yellows on both dropper loop with finbait and yoyo irons and got absolutley pinned to the rail by these brutes.  Unfortunately, all were chaffed off after getting bulldogged into the rocks.

Left the island at dark venturing offshore heading for points south to find some kelp yellows and bluefin.  Ran all night and were in the zone by grey light for day 2.  Mid-morning Capt. Jeff found a foamer of big model bluefin that they slid up on.  Picked up a couple jumbos, one on flyline bait and one on the glow flatfall jig.  2 for 2!  Got back on the school but no biters on flyline or jigs but the double trouble on the kite got bit this time!  Fish inhaled both baits and we were 3 for 3 on the big models!

Found another school right around noon that responded to bait with 2 anglers hooked up on flylined baits but unfortunately both of these fish won the battle and found freedom.  3 for 5 on the big fish was the final tally for the trip.

The 3 fish were weighed at Seaforth Landing scale after being gilled and bled: 184#, 175#, and 150#

Excellent job by the entire crew and our anglers to get these beasts in the boat!  The trip was a great success with an AWESOME SPONSOR IN UNITED COMPOSITES RODS!  Fish, fun, and excellent meals being served up by Chef Mikey all day long!
