Detroit Reservoir - Detroit, OR

Was stocked the week of Sept. 3 with over 15,000 legal- and trophy-size hatchery rainbow trout. Fishing in winter can be good because fish such as kokanee and rainbow trout are still active in the colder months. As an added bonus, there’s usually no line at the boat ramps. Reducing your trolling speed can be an effective technique if the bite is not on.
Fall drawdown of Detroit Reservoir continues and the water level is slowly dropping. Currently, the water elevation is at the same elevation as the foot of Mongold boat ramp, which means it may not be prudent to launch your boat at this time. Rain this week may bring up the water levels enough for the boat ramp to be usable by week’s end. Check the US Army Corps of Engineer’s website for more information.
