New Melones Fishing Continues to be Steady.
Largemouth Bass, Largemouth Bass

New Melones fishing continues to be steady. With the recent storms rolling in and out the post frontal days can be a little slower but are still productive. Prefrontal and mid storms can be great times to really load the boat or try to catch a giant! Water clarity has dropped a bit with a bit of staining but remains good at 4-10’ depending on the area of the lake. There are lots of schooled fish holding deep that are great for numbers, with and a occasional 3-4lber mixed in. The shallow fish aren’t schooled in as large numbers but still seem to be holding in smaller wolf packs. Where you find one, there’s typically a few more to be caught. The deeper fish can be caught on most finesse tactics but reaction is a great bet as well. My finesse line up has been mostly jigs, darter heads, wacky rigged stick baits and drop shot. For reaction I’ve been switching up the weight of the baits based on depth but sticking with the same type of baits. For the 25’ and deeper range under spins, a rigs and Swimbaits have been good producers. Above 25’ I use the above mentioned as well as throw in rip baits and glide baits. Over the next month the big spotted bass should really start to gorge in preparation for there spawn. I hope this helps you on your next trip to Melones, If your looking for an in-depth break down and great day of fishing you can book a trip with me.
