The water temper at lake Del Valle is still sitting quite cold in the mid-40’s although the trout and catfish bite is on fire.  Many of the trout are moving along the lower narrows or the marina area.  From shore many of our anglers are favoring the east beach now that the water level has finally risen to where it is fishable.  Another spot from shore many people like to fish from is directly north of the boat launch ramp right past the no fishing sign.  If you like trolling, trolling along the sections of beach in between these coves is another good idea, lure that are working well are small shad imitations such as Kastmasters, minnows, or small spinners.  Bait wise the corn yellow PowerBait is the stand out bait right now, or people enjoy using the mice tails the orange colors are doing the best right now.  If you are having problems finding the trout you should follow the pelicans in the water, Pelicans must eat about half their body weight a day to survive so, they are aware of where the fish are such as baitfish or trout.  The small and largemouth biting slow, but they are still active out here the best bet is out in hereon bay by the dam since this is the clearest water in the lake, the bass are only really wanting worm or shad imitations worked extremely slow near the bottom.  Small spinners or weightless nightcrawler are the best things to use to get the bass to bite, now that the water level is up there is a lot more structured to try to target the bass at.  Fallen trees or rock points in the water are where you are most likely to hook into one of these hard-fighting fish.  The striped bass are also running hard through the marina chasing the trout that come from our trout plants, many of these striped bass are  caught accidentally when people are bait fishing for trout so be careful if you feel a nice run on your Powerbait rod.  Trolling large swimsuits around the marina is another good way to target the stripped bass in the lake, Huddlestons or savage gears will work quite well, another old-time favorite is the Alabama rigs although these are only ones you want for large fish.  The catfish bite is hot out here at Del Valle as well with many of the catfish moving in the murky water around the marina area.  Most of the catfish have been caught exclusively on anchovies although a few have been caught on nightcrawler as well.  Fishing the sharp points along the shoreline can be another great way to hook into these fish, try setting up on point and fanning your bait out in all directions.  The catfish are going to start moving to the structure like the bass as the water level continues to rise for the summertime
