Lake Berryessa Fishing Report

Myself and friend Mike Rogers fished the BBT Northern region opener on 2-23-19.  The water temp ranged from low to mid fifties in the areas we fished.  With the recent storms the water up North was of course chocolate milk and didn’t clear up until about Big Island and water clarity around Pleasure Cove was around two and a half feet.  We had a really tough pre-fish the day before that clued us into the fact the reaction bite just wasn’t there.  With that we decided to start and stay up north all day and to our surprise we had very little company, I’m sure the muddy water scared most anglers off.  Our bait of chose for the day was a Texas rigged Ocho in the Big Tex and green pumpkin colors. Cast them out, set the trolling motor on twenty and forget their there until you get a bite.  No second chance on the bite, we had to set the hook as soon as you felt the bite.  All together I believe we caught about fifteen fish with the top five weighing 16.84, which was enough for a second place finish.  The golden range was ten to fifteen feet of water. Hope this helps some of you out and remember treat people the way you want to be treated on the water and as always be safe.
