BASS
The heat wave made bass fishing more difficult this week, but that is not to say there has not been typical DVL reports. The best anglers have been reporting 20 fish days, but the catches have been running smaller, between 2 and 3 pounds. Texas rigged worms in oxblood, prism shad, and morning dawn, fat Ikas in watermelon or green pumpkin, and Carolina rigged brush hogs have been reported as the best choices in plastics fished on the points. There have been some spinner bait reports from afternoon fishermen and some folks have reported catching bass trolling jointed Rapalas along the dams. For those who are targeting big bass swimbaits, crankbaits and jerkbaits have accounted for some in the morning. Rick Rivera of Menifee caught a 7 pound bass throwing a swimbait along the west dam. Louie Vega of Hemet caught the biggest bass of the week fishing from shore with a jerkbait.

TROUT
Trout fishing has been slow with boaters reporting sporadic catches. Stephen Rozena of Redlands caught a 3.65 pound trout fishing with anchovies. Danny Martins of Murrieta caught a 3.2 pound trout fishing with jigs near the east dam.

STRIPER
There were a few striper caught this week on swimbaits. Russell Nievar of Anza caught a 24 pound striper fishing with a swimbait. John Balderson of Sage caught a 20 pound striper fishing with a swimbait.

CATFISH
Anglers have been consistently catching cats from shore as well as boats. Mackerel and anchovies have been the most reported baits, but shrimp and chicken liver has accounted for a few reports. The most reported areas have been the saddle dam, Rawson cove, near the quarry, and along the east dam. Shore angler Bruce Clement of Yucaipa caught a 5.51 pound cat fishing with chicken liver in the third cove to the right of the marina.

PANFISH
The panfish bite has been wide open at DVL. Blue gill, red ear sunfish, and crappie have all been reported in large numbers. Most anglers are catching them along the dams with mini jigs, mealworms, or nightcrawlers. Shore anglers Elliott and Elija Lewis of Beaumont caught a 8 pound string of bluegill fishing with mealworms near the east dam. Danny Martins of Murrieta caught 11 crappie totaling 10.63 pounds fishing with jigs along the east dam. Johnny Millage of Banning caught a 2.44 pound crappie fishing near the rock quarry with nightcrawlers. Trevor Plume caught a 1.46 pound crappie, but did not reveal his tactics.
