Our recent charter on the STARDUST out of SEA LANDING was an absolutely remarkable trip, we had 28 anglers aboard of which 12 had never been ocean fishing before. We were greeted by Capt Luke, deckhands Dane and Sal and the now infamous Chaf Casey in the galley. After everyone boarded and signed in, we were underway. We made a quick stop at the bait receiver and loaded some very lively sardines, Capt Luke gave us the safety briefing and the plans for the day. He said we were headed for Santa Rosa Island to a "hot" whitefish spot the found a couple days ago and that it would be about a three hour run. This gave everyone time to get rigged up and indulge in Chef Casey's very filling burritos and sneak in a little nap. About 30 minutes from the area deckhand Sal gave a very through "how to" demonstration to all our newbies. A few minutes later Capt Luke gave the word to drop down, and within a minute we had Ocean Whitefish flying over the rail, and these were no little guys! The average weight of the Ocean Whitefish was 4-5 pounds and the folks who hooked up doubles had their work cut out for them bringing them up. After about an hour and a half we had a limit of 280 Ocean White fish on board ranging in weight from 3 - 9 lbs, smiles you've ever seen on 28 anglers faces. We also managed a few Sheephead and rockfish in all the Whitefish mayhem. We headed out to a little deeper for some rockfishing, we had some really good quality Chuckleheads and Reds being caught. We ended up with 190 rockfish and a lone Cabezon and a few legal Lingcod causing everyones bags to overflow with fish. Congrat to my wife for cathing the Jackpot Sheephead and giving the jackpot back to the crew. The entire crew worked their butts off trying to keep up with all the fish flying over the rail and had about 500 fish to clean on the way back in. THANKS to Capt Luke and his crew for making this a very memorable trip for all our newbies as well as us "seasoned" anglers. We now have 12 more anglers to add and many were planning their next trip, everyone on the baot went home with a bag of fillets that weighed around 25 pounds each. If you would like any of these pictures you can email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to forward them to you.
