Cucamonga-Guasti set to kick-off first Trout Derby
Saturday, December 12th

San Bernardino County Regional Parks to host five derbies

(SAN BERNARDINO, CA) Trout season began in last month in San Bernardino County Regional Parks giving anglers ample time to develop their skills for casting and catching to get ready for the Regional Parks' annual Trout Derbies.

Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park, 800 N. Archibald Avenue, Ontario is the site for the first derby Saturday, December 12th. Fishermen from across the south land will try out their best baits and their skills at catching the largest trout in the fastest time for their chance at winning cash and valuable prizes. Fifty prizes, ranging from $35 to $500 are awarded at each of the derbies. Turners Outdoors, Camping World, Charter Communications, Bass Pro Shops, Fiesta Village, Papa John's Pizza and Bakers Drive-Thru are some of the sponsors of this year's derby. At holiday time, this could put smiles on many faces of amateur anglers.

Last year top prize catches ranged from 10 lb., 9 oz. to 19  ? pounds. Sierra Bow, a full-finned ruby red meat rainbow trout, is part of this year's stockings. A close relative of the wild rainbow trout, it comes from the coldest spring fed waters in the highest mountain elevations. These vividly colored wild-acting trout cause rod-bending action and will thereby enhance the excitement for this season's participants.

Altogether there will be five trout derbies running from December 12th through April 6th 2010. Other parks hosting derbies are as follows: Yucaipa, January 9, 2010; Prado (Chino), February 6, 2010; Mojave Narrows (Victorville), March 20, 2010; and Glen Helen (San Bernardino), April 10, 2010.

The derbies start at 7:00 a.m. and end at 1:00 p.m. Gates open at 6 a.m. Registration is $15 per fisherman and a $10 park entry fee. A state fishing license is required and may be purchased at the host park. For more information regarding these events, please contact (909) 38-PARKS or www.county-parks.com.
