Our annual Memorial Day 2 day charter aboard the PACIFIC STAR at PIERPOINT LANDING did not have the best weather forecast in store for us. All 18 anglers were excited with reports that the White Seabass were biting at Catalina Island earlier that day. Capt Mike and the crew greeted everyone as we boarded and as soon as everyone was on board we headed to the bait receivers and loading up with squid and sardines. We arrived at the spot around 3:30 am and a few anglers were up and soaking some baits, the 25-35 knot winds made it very difficult for us. We were continually doing a tuna type shuffle as the boat swang on the anchor, I was the first to get bit about 4:00 am with a keeper halibut. We had to wait until later that day and several moves before we got another of he right kind and a few Calico. Late in the afternoon we headed back to the front side of Catalina to get a break from the winds and some calmer weather fishing, we ended the day 2 halibut, 1 white seabass, several calico and an assortment of rockfish.

For day two we headed back around the back side of Catalina in hopes of finding the right kind and were greeted with even stronger winds from the day before and a water temperature drop of 5 degrees. Needless to say the temperature shut off any hopes of getting any more of the right kind. After a few attempts, Capt Mike decided to head back to front side for calmer water and try and get some more fish for folks. However, the winds on the front side were just as bad as the backside and after lunch we decidedm to call it a day and head for the barn. A special thanks to Capt Mike and his crew for doing everything possible to put us on fish, but the weather had other ideas. I am looking forward to net years trip and hope that the weather will cooperate for us. If you would like any of the pictures email me at [email protected] and I will gladly forward them to you.
