The Catfish bite has been good at Hesperia Lake. Best action has been on a Carolina rig with garlic crawlers, shrimp and mackerel. Action has been good all around the lake with the best bet being around the small island. Larger fish coming from the catfish point, and the finger. Some limits in the 2 to 3 pound range. Ronnie Hernandez of Rancho brought in a 10 lb. cat on the old mealworm/marshmallow combo from the north shore. Jake Munoz from Hesperia landed his 9 lb. catfish by using mackerel from the inlet. Scott White of Apple Valley caught a 7.75 lb. catfish using shrimp off the finger. Kudos to Mike Williams who took home a 22.5 pound stringer of five catfish which he caught using Mackerel sprayed with garlic.

1,000 pounds of fish on Monday and again next Monday. September 30, 2013 will bring another 1,000 pound load of trophy size catfish. Lots of large fish still prowl the depths. The lake is open from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the day session and 1:00 to 10:00 p.m. for the night fishing. No state fishing license is required here. Information: 800-521-6332 or 760-244-5951. Remember to bring this column with you to receive discounts on fishing and camping (other than holidays) through September.
