Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.


To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day bass boats are available weekdays for 35$ each.

The trout fishing has been steady and should improve with Wednesday's plant. Big fish for the week belonged to Victor Ortiz of Vista who caught a 6.45# trout on a nightcrawler in Willow Cove. The east end of the lake has been the most productive for trout. Powerbait, and inflated nightcrawlers have been the best baits.

The bass fishing remains good. Chris Lenker of Valley Center caught and released a 6.20# bass using a plastic worm at Bass Point. Roy Hammond of Escondido caught and released a 4.80# bass caught on a trick worm on Senior Shoreline. Bass can be found near structure, and respond best to crawdads, swimbaits, or dark colored plastics.

It promises to be a good year for crappie with lots of fish being caught unintentionally early in the season. Andrew Gabryszak of Temecula weighed in a 2.15 # crappie he caught at Bass Point on a kastmaster, but Daniel Rossetter did him one better with a 2.55# crappie caught on a nightcrawler at crappie Rock. Crappie prefer the cover of submerged rocks or willows, and love to hide under docks, or in other shady places. They are most often lured out by mini-jigs or live golden shiners.
