To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day bass boats are available weekdays for 35$ each.

Largemouth bass can be found near structure, and respond best to crawdads, shad raps, or dark colored plastics. Johnson Year of Escondido caught an 8.80# bass on a crawdad along Senior Shoreline.

The catfish derby we hosted last year was such a success that we are holding it again this year. The derby is scheduled to take place Saturday July 5th , and the lake will be open until midnight on that day. The fifth of July also happens to be free fishing day, so permits only, no licenses are required for this event. The same Johnson Year who landed the big bass on Tuesday weighed in a 17.00# catfish three days later using mackerel at the South Shore Rock Pile. Lake Wohlford cats prefer chicken liver or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well for both catfish and carp.
