Dixon Lake Trout season so far has been good with conditions improving each week after a stock. Jake Guma of Escondido caught a nice 6 lb. 2 oz. trout from Trout Cove on a white mini jig. The trend continues with good fishing 3 to 4 days after the stock. The bite tends to slow down during a skip week.?? The bite should pick up this week with a 1500 lb. trout plant on 4-9-14. Trout Cove and Jack Creek Cove have been productive with Whisker Bay producing??some fish.?? The opening bite has been the key to a good start and lasting several hours and the bite slowly tapering off....then picking up again in the late afternoon. Dixon Lake has been stocked with over 24,000 pounds of trout so far this season.?? Best baits for trout have been Power bait in rainbow and green colors. Green and white Power worms, mini jigs have been the lucky colors for big trout.?? Night crawlers are the trout's best friend and are the go-to bait when the bite slows down.

The bass has a slow to steady pace this week with some decent size being caught and released??up to 6 pounds fishing near Boat Dock Cove area on plastics. Other smaller bass are being picked off by fishing the drop-shot plastic worms in other cove areas. Remember "Dottie"... proof that "catch and release of bass" keeps the dream alive of the next world record bass here again at Dixon Lake.

The 17th annual Hidden Valley Kiwanis Charity Trout Derby will take place on April 26th and 27th with 3000 lbs. of trophy size trout stocked before the derby. Fishing prizes for adults and youths will be awarded each day along with drawing opportunities for prizes. A children's fishing pond stocked with trout will be for ages 7 years and younger. Permit will cost $14 for adults and $10 each for seniors and youth ages 8-15 yrs. old.

The next stock will be planted with 1500 lbs. of Nebraska "Tail walker" trout before the Kiwanis Derby, pending all weather and road conditions. Only 1 more stocks remain for the 2014 trout season. For further information on the annual Kiwanis Derby visit www.hvkiwanis.org For rules & regulations, stocking schedule, call the Dixon Lake Ranger Station at 760-839-4680

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake received and was granted an Aquaculture Permit. This permit is valid again for the 2014 calendar year. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will still need a daily fishing lake permit. A second rod permit/ticket can be purchased for an additional $2.00 fee. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect until further notice other than no fishing license required.
