We beginning our trip from Ensenada, Baja California at 07:30 am, and arrived to the San Quintín town for breakfast (Santa Isabel restaurant) at 10:00 am. At the Old Mill site, a number of 18 boats were out for fishing, a good number compared to past months. In this Saturday we monitored ten boats (30 anglers), because some boats arrived at same time and stop in different cleaning tables: Gorron, Paloma,Calamar, Fany, Fany II, Fany III, Fany IV, Fany V, La Pinta and a Private boat.

The anglers captured a total number of 257 fishes, belonging to 18 fish species; furthermore, The boats were searching the fighting yellowtail, and half of them (boats: Fany, Fany III, Calamar & Gorron) were lucky for a total of 16 individuals of good size. The biggest yellowtail (25 pounds) was fished by Jody Paulson (Sun Valley, CA) on the boat Fany III with Captain Bartoldo "Bear" García. Another good yellowtail (18 lb) was captured by angler Jerry Nixon (Corona, CA) aboard Calamar boat, and David Alcalá (Los Angeles, CA) on the Fany boat with Captain Gordo. Five Barracudas were fished by anglers aboard Fany IV. Only anglers on the Gorron boat were searching the yellowtail, exclusively. The others nine boats changed to find bottom fishes around Isla San Martin, and Ben's rock. The vermilion "red" rockfish was the most abundant with a total of 85 (up to 7.5 lb), followed by 79 brown rockfish, 14 ocean whitefish, 12 starry rockfish, 11 sheepheads, 9 bocaccios, and minor numbers of sculpin, flag, treefish, greenspotted, speckled, and cooper rockfish. Other fishes were lingcods, barred sand bass, one thresher shark of 45 lb, and one mako shark of 9 lb. A total of four Humboldt squids arrived on the boats, but of course, many were released.

This Saturday was sunny and warm, with light winds, the surface water temperature was 60oF; we finished our August monitoring at 18:00 pm, after that we were going to enjoy fish and shrimps coconut recipe at Jardines Baja Restaurant; in this place we find three american anglers eating his Dorado on the plate, the only Dorado that was fished at San Quintin in this day.

Next week (August 21-23) will be the Annual San Quintin sportfishing tournament, we hope that many anglers drive or flight to San Quintin to find the prized fishes.
