July is here and staring with a bang.. The outer islands are HOT HOT HOT! Over the past few weeks the overnight trips have been pounding out big counts of white seabass, but now the tables have turned to HALIBUT! This is the bite everyone has been waiting for!

On the local island front Island Spirit is our lone soldier fishing Anacapa and Santa Cruz Island. The local bite has slowed a bit, but still plenty of game fish in the area. Captain Forest and the Island Spirit are spending the mornings fishing for  yellowtail, white seabass, calico bass and barracuda. A surge of quality sand bass have also moved into the flats along the coast. Bottom fishing for red snapper and lingcod had rounded out an average day's catch on the local rounds.

The weather has been outstanding for all the trips! Warm and somewhat humid days are upon us.. July is here in full force!

3/4 DAY & FULL DAY TACKLE: local islands or coastal fishing. Bring a lite rod/reel combo that you can cast with 12-20lb line. Also bring a medium rod/reel combo with 25-30lb line. Torpedo sinkers ranging from 6oz to 12oz and maybe some sliding sinkers from 1/4oz to 3/4oz. Hooks, bring some 1/0 live bait style for casting an anchovy and 4/0-5/0 cirlcle hooks for the live squid. Barracuda and yellowtail love the iron, so bring a couple casting jigs in your favorit colors!

OVERNIGHT TACKLE: Outer island trips you want to bring a medium rod/reel combo with 25-30lb line and a medium-heavy rod/reel combo with 40lb line. Torpedo sinkers ranging from 8oz to 16oz are being used daily. Hook size will depend on the brand, but size 4/0 through 6/0 is most brands will do the job.

REMEMBER: no ice chest's or coolers allowed on any boat. We simply dont have enough room for them. No outside alcohalic beverages are permitted, they must be purchased on board in the galley (photo i.d. required). Fishing licenses, rods, terminal tackle, food or gratuity are NOT included in your ticket price.

1 DAY CALIFORNIA FISHING LICENSE $14.86 - RENTAL ROD $15 PER DAY - TERMINAL TACKLE FOR THE DAY COST'S ABOUT $10
