I made my annual trek to HALF MOON BAY for a day of shallow water rockfishing aboard the QUEEN OF HEARTS. I arrived at the harbor around 6am and was greeted by Sherri Ingles behind the counter, she gave me the latest scoop on how the local fishing had been lately. I also loaded up with some "bullet leadheads" and scampi tails, which I have a hard time finding down south, and a great cup of coffee. I then headed for the boat and was greeted by the ever jovial Capt Bob Ingles and deckhand Heather, we had everyone on board by 6:45am and Capt Bob then gave us our safety briefing and plans for the day. He told us that the "red tide" has been moving in down south and the fishing was not good at all down there and was working it's way up the line. We were going to go straight out the harbor and would have lines in the water within 30 minutes so get rigged up quick. True to his word we were dropping our lines within 30 minutes, our depth was about 60 feet and were soon bringing some nice brown and olive rockfish over the rail. We made several moves throughout the day, fishing was really tough. We finally managed a boat limit of some nice fish and one lingcod and headed back to the dock and on land by 2pm. If your ever up in the area I highly recommend the QUEEN OF HEARTS for some great shallow water rockfishing. If you would like any of these pictures please email at john@sportfishingreport.com and I will forward them to you.
