The Pajaro Valley Rod and Gun Club hosted their annual children's fishing derby this weekend at Pinto Lake in Watsonville. The California Department of Fish and Game loaded 1000 pounds of planter trout into the lake and the public was invited to fish later that afternoon once the derby had concluded. Joe Donatini's family joined local angler Mike Baxter and family for an afternoon of non- stop trout action at the lake. "They were milling like anchovies," enthused Baxter. "We found the mini- tube jigs worked best for these swarming trout." Baxter also said power bait beneath a bobber worked well for the kids. Both families took home their limits of trout and some anglers caught and released 40-60 trout during the pandemonium.
