The lake temperature out here at Del Valle has dropped dramatically with the water reaching 50 degrees in the early morning trout season has begun! With many anglers catching them in the shallow water off micetails, nightcrawlers and powerbait. The white powerbait, chartreuse and orange micetails seem to be the favorites. The trout can be found in the shallow water in the coves on the right side of the lake, you can also hit the eastern shore if you don't have a boat and need a spot within walking distance. The catfish bite has started to come back with most of them getting caught on chicken liver or anchovies, most are getting caught along the points in the narrows or in the mouths of the coves they seem to like the murkier water. The small and largemouth bite has started to die off with the water being quite cold for them to be active. Although, you can always try to catch them on a nightcrawler because of the increased debris in the water. Many worms are being pushed into the lake making nightcrawlers, or even any earthworms you might find, prime bait. Rubber crawdad or worm imitations are the best types of lures to use you can find the bass hanging around the rock points or cruising in the coves by structure. The striped bass are running around the marina chasing the planter trout throwing big swimbaits or drifting anchovies are the best ways to get them. The perch fish are slow because of the low temperature but throws redworms by the structures in the water is the best way to try for them.

The water temperature out here at Lake Del Valle is still in the low to mid 60's for the whole day although, the trout have really started to come out in force with many getting caught in the shallow coves out in Swallow Bay or on the East Beach. Micetails seem to be their preferred bait although you can get them on a nightcrawler or Powerbait, lure fishing for trout is still spotty though. We have received one plant of...... Read More
