Lake Will Be Closed to Fishing November 28th – 29th (Strictly Enforced)
Fishing permits, boat rentals, bait, and tackle are all sold at the Concessions Stand right next to the Ranger Station in the Lakeshore Area. Anglers “must” acquire a fishing permit before casting out to catch the big one. If you feel the need to fish with a second pole; make sure to pick up a second rod permit as well for an additional $2. We do not require a state fishing license but do strictly enforce the required permits and fresh water regulations.
The Dixon Lake Trout Derby is upon us. November 30th – December 2nd everyone is welcome to participate in the Annual Trout Derby. 6,000 pounds of trout will be stocked between the 28th and 30th.
Trout season is here! and it is proving to be a strong start. Numerous people are catching their limits before mid-day in both Trout Cove and Jack Creek areas. Green & yellow power bait, mouse tails, power worms, and small jigs are proving to be the go to baits in these beginning weeks of the season. Trout Cove!! has proven to be the most productive for all things trout. It is a tight squeeze but, the benefits are worth it. Please be courteous to your fellow fisherman. Anthony Najera was able to bring in a 5.75lb trout (Jack Creek Cove) with green power bait and Teng Vang was able to bring in a 5.25 pounder (Trout Cove) with a white power worm.”
The Catfish bite has slowed but, there are a few productive times. Early morning and the last few hours before closing have proven to produce a few good bites. Xavier Gonzalez and his dad were able to pull in an 11.2 pounder in from the buoy line.
At this time the Bass are active in search of food and are biting on drop shot and smaller swim baits. With the trout stock here it is a good time to practice different fishing techniques. Just a reminder, Bass must be at least 12 inches to keep with a limit of 2 at this time.
Bluegill have slowed down and pushed into deeper waters. Mealworms, and cut up night crawlers have been good choices for catching blue gill in the past few weeks with the majority of them being caught in the early morning and afternoon hours. The Buoy Line is producing large size fish at this time. Bluegill are limited to 25 of any size at this time.
There is a ban on private water craft and equipment at this time. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Notable Catches for November: Trout: Gabriel Lerma 8.5lb, Teng Vang 5.25lb Anthony Najera 5.25lb Catfish: Xavier Gonzalez 11.2lb
