The Lower Deschutes is coming down from a pretty bad high water period the last week or so. With a few tributaries blowing out the water through maupin has been off color and high. I check flows at Madras and at the mouth  to determine what the water will look like in Maupin. Although pretty far away from each other this usually gives me a decent representation of what the river is doing. It looks like it is dropping and clearing pretty good right now and is fishable below the northern boundary of the Warm Springs Reservation (above Maupin). I would be fishing some big stonefly patterns with some euro style droppers. Add split shot depending on the speed and depth of the water, faster and deeper = more weight. if the BWO's do decide to hatch it will be during the warmest part of the day in the back eddies and slower riffles.

Suggested Dries: Thorax BWO #18-20, Tilt Wing BWO #18-20, Hackle Stacker #18-20, Purple Haze #18-22, BWO Sparkle Dun #18-22, Black Stimulator #12-14.

Suggested Nymphs: Jimmy Legs #8-14, Lex's Improved Stone #10-12, Trout Retriever #8-12, Jigged Pheasant Tail #14-16, Jigged Hares Ear #14-16, Duracell Jig #14-18, Two Bit Hooker #16-20, Double Beaded Peacock Stone #6-14, Hot head Jigs.
