Catfish Season Has Kicked Off

Catfish season has kicked off with many anglers catching fish this previous weekend and throughout the week. Popular spots include south Lake 3 and the west shore of Lake 4 just before the island. Popular baits include catfish dough bait, chicken liver, and shrimp. The bass have also been making an appearance with many anglers catching fish on soft plastics such as senkos and fat ikas. Popular spots include the west shore of Lake 5 and the south shore of Lake 2. Our next scheduled stock will take place on Friday, April 30. A portion of the lakes will be closed in order to give the fish time to acclimate.

Recently at Santee Lakes we have noticed an increase in the amount of discarded fishing line scattered throughout the park. The picture above is what was collected over a span of two hours across four out of the seven lakes that many species call home. We can all do our part to be sure that the wildlife we enjoy around our lakes do not have to suffer from our carelessness. Fishing line is such a danger to wildlife, we should never discard it on the ground. If you see any left by others, please pick it up. Three new line receptacles have been installed throughout the Lakes to give guests more opportunities to properly dispose of fishing line.
