We had a amazing group of anglers on our charter aboard the ISLAND SPIRIT out of VENTURA SPORTFISHING, ranging in ages from 7 to well let me just over 21. For this charter we had Capt Jessie in the wheelhouse, on deck were Alvin and Johnny and Cathy took care of us in the galley. The plan was to head out to the sandbass ground and look around, with nothing showing up we headed out to the islands for some rockfishing. We picked away at a nice mixed bag of reds, starrys, boccacio most of the morning. Around 1pm, Capt Jessie decided it was time to go back to the sandbass grounds and take another look. We found a nice batch of fish on the meter, but they we not in the biting mood and we only managed 2 sandbass and 1 barracuda. Everyone fished hard and tried to entice them to bite, but they had other ideas and we had to call it a day.

Upon arriving at the landing, owner Greg Ewart presented me with a jig of the SFR logo on one side and Ventura Sportfishing logo on the other side. I tied it on on the way out, and it must have been karma as the first fish caught was a Sculpin on the jig. After that, I took it off and put it away for safe keeping. These SFR jigs are for sale and the only place they can be found is at VENTURA SPORTFISHING.

On the way back to the harbor, we held the ever popular SFR raffle from with winners receiving SFR swag, SEAGUAR FLOUROCARBON, KEEP N IT REEL shirts and shorts, OWNER HOOKS. Everyone on board went away as a winner and took some great items home for use on their next fishing adventure. If you would like any of these pictures you can email me at [email protected] and I will gladly send them to you.
