Local guide Kevin Brock summed up this week's salmon fishing on the Sacramento River with two emphatic words: "Go fishing!" Experienced river watchers rate this years' phenomenal salmon bite as the best in more than a decade. "We have now gotten limits for everyone and arrived home early for 13 straight days, while fishing a few miles upstream of Irvine Finch", enthused Brock.

"On Wednesday, we hooked 17 salmon, and landed 12 [limits for 6 anglers]. Many of these fish are 'super jacks' in the 10 to 12 pound range, and our largest of the week was 23 pounds. We are getting all of our fish dragging roe, but other anglers are catching fish anchoring or backtrolling with silver/chartreuse K15 Luhr Jensen Kwikfish."

Brock tipped, "The fish are spread out all over the river, and we are seeing them jump everywhere. Good catches are being made all the way from Freeport to the Barge Hole. Salmon are still coming up in force from the ocean, and we are hearing about limits from every area. As word gets out, the crowds on the river are increasing."

Also still required are any applicable special tags or report cards, including sturgeon, steelhead, Klamath-Trinity salmon, spiny lobster, and abalone. The state...... Read More
