In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day Bass boats are available weekdays for 35$ each.

The Trout plant was delayed for two days due to poor weather at the hatchery and the condition of the fish was impacted as well. Felix Lopez had the biggest trout of the week at 6.25#s caught on pink powerbait on Senior Shoreline. Fishing should improve somewhat beginning this weekend. The final Trout plant of the season is scheduled for April 24th.Mouse tails, inflated nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs have been the top baits.

The Largemouth Bass have begun to spawn and small to medium Bass can be found near structure. Doug Hagadorn of Escondido caught and released a 5.25# Bass he caught at the West Buoys on a crankbait. Crawdads, shad raps, and dark colored plastics are all working well.

Warming water temperatures have brought about resurgence in the Catfish bite. Robert Wade of Poway weighed in a 10.65# catfish he caught last Saturday while fishing for Bass near the West Buoys. Catfish respond well to chicken liver or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough bait recipe that works great on both Catfish and Carp.
