While there is still a lot of billfish on the Pacific side, especially at the Golden Gate Bank, the bite has tapered off considerably and the boats are looking around at other locations on both sides of the peninsula. High billfish boat for the week was the "Gaviota VII", fishing mostly at the Golden Gate, releasing 7 stripers for 5 days fished. A definitive temperature change developed this past week from the Pacific side, beginning at San Cristobal, with 72 on the Pacific side and 74-75 on the Sea of Cortez side and with that, some billfish action developed in the area surrounding the 95 Fathom Spot. Right now, it looks like the warmer water may push around the corner from the Sea of Cortez and on to the Pacific side and if that does occur, the striper action would probably bounce right back into high gear. A few more days will tell the story. In the meantime, the overall fish count for a total of 21 days fished reflected 13 stripers released, 4 dorado, 1 mako shark, 1 yellowffin tuna and 28 skipjack.

Cabo Climate: Mostly a sunny and warm week with a few passing clouds and temps that varied from 58 nights to 87 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: There were varied surface breezes to 13 mph with almost a daily direction change. The Pacific side, from the Golden Gate to Jaime Banks and inshore to Cabo Falso, ranged from 72-74. From Cabo San Lucas and easterly, into the Sea of Cortez, temps rose gradually to 75-76 by Chileno and on into the Sea of Cortez.

Best Fishing Area: The Golden Gate Bank remained the hot spot for the billfish with the 95 Fathom Spot next best.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was the best choice and the stripers bit on both, caballitos and mackerel.

Live Bait Supply: Excellent bait supply; mostly caballitos, at $3.00 per bait. Opportunity to catch greenback mackerel continues at the Golden Gate Bank.
