Bass: Bass fishing has been strong at DVL. There has been a good bite on swimbaits in the marina. Senkos and Ikas have been getting lots of fish this week along with caroloina rigging 6 inch plastics and creature baits. Boat anglers have had the most success with bass fishing, but shore fishermen have been doing well with live crawdads. The bass have moved up considerably holding at 10-30 feet. Main points and along the dams have been the favorite spots for boat anglers. Curtis Hester of Homeland C&R'd 15 bass over 5 pounds this week. His biggest weighed 7.92 pounds. He was fishing with live crawdads from shoreline. James Comrie of Murrieta got a 6.02 pound bass using a swimbait at 40 feet in the north east corner of the lake. Carl and Jordan Burrow of Murrieta, with the aid of a guide service, released an 18 pound limit fishing shallow in an undisclosed area with plastic worms. Kyle Davison of Murrieta got a 4 pound bass fishing with crawdads from shore. Jesse Mena of Hemet got a 10.5 pound bass while fishing with crawdads from shore. Mike Collins of San Jacinto released a 29.73 pound limit. He would not disclose his methods. ??
??Trout: Trout fishing slowed down this week. Shoreline anglers have been getting limits, but most boat anglers have been walking away empty handed. Those who have had luck have been catching the recent stockers using Power Bait, mini jigs, trout worms and Kastmasters. The marina has been the top spot for stockers while the holdovers have been elusive. Brandon Williams of Lake Elsinore got an 8 pound trout limit. He was fishing from shore with Powerbait and Kastmasters no deeper than 15 feet. Sal Valle of Culver City got a 4 pound trout on a Rapala trolling at 10 feet just east of the marina.

Striper: Sixteen year old Jacob Burrow, with the help of a guide service, got a 10 pound striper. They were fishing the north shore with jerk bait. Daryl of Ontario got a 9.02 pound striper fishing at 30 feet on the east dam with a swimbait.

Catfish: Congratulations to Doug Hagadorn of Valley Center got a 32.80 pound catfish; the biggest fish ever caught at DVL. He was fishing at 60 feet with a Pig N' Jig around the first island on the north shore. (January 19, 2007)
