The Cabo catching has been almost non-stop for the week and about the only change has been the increase in billfish that have combined with the yellowfin tuna action and offered fast action fishing days. High boat for the week was Captain Juan Dominguez of the "Gaviota VIII", releasing 9 of 11 stripers caught and adding 23 tuna to the catch, for 4 fishing days. Overall catches for the Gaviota Fleet & Fish Cabo boats reporting in for a total of 37 fishing days reflected 3 dorado, 43 stripers, (31 releases) and 232 yellowfin tuna, (mostly in the schoolfish range, 10-20 lbs.).

Cabo Climate: Just awesome weather, ranges from 62 nights to 92 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Overall, very good sea conditions with a couple of breezy days, with sea temps that ranged from 66 at the Golden Gate Bank to Cabo Falso and warmed from Cabo into the Sea of Cortez to 73-74.

Best Fishing Area: Early in the week the 95 fathom spot was hottest and changed mid-week to good fishing from just a few miles out in front of Cabo and on out to the Cabrillo Seamount.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was the hot ticket item for the billfish, albeit, some fish were taken on the lures. The yellowfin tuna were pretty eager on the tuna feathers of nearly any color, cedar plugs, pearly heads and jet heads.

Live Bait Supply: Excellent, with a mix of mackerel and caballitos.

THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISH REPORT - THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND MORE The billfish catches did pick up a little this week, but the fishing focus was on the yellowfin tuna and the fast action they were offering. Overall combined fish counts for the Gaviota Fleet and the Fish Cabo boats, reporting for...... Read More
