Mr. Cowan has passed away surrounded by his family just before noon on June 27, 2008 at the age of 87. Texas has lost a conservation legend and artist-extraordinaire. I am pleased to say Jack was very aware of our recent event honoring him. He was excited about RFA-TX's plans for reefing and to open passes. Though he was unable to see his friends one last time, he took great comfort in knowing that they were there in his honor.

I will always remember him when I see a "Cowan Sunrise" on the water.

Respectfully,
Jim Smarr, RFA-TX Chairman
