East Walker River

The East is still running in the 330 cfs range, the fishing at this flow is by no means automatic but there are definitely some decent numbers of fish being caught. The streamer action seems to have slowed a bit and most of the fish we’re hearing about are being caught on nymphs. Haven’t heard any news on dries this week. Mostly caddis nymphs and small midge patterns seem to be the ticket and they’re still taking some San Juan worms as well. As always with this flow, don’t be afraid to add some weight to get your flies down near the bottom.

Recommended Flies:

Rainbow warrior, flashback emerger, silver streak, zebra midge, WD-40, buckskin caddis, z-wing caddis, deep sparkle pupa, san juan worm, squirmy wormy, shock collar leech, rubberlegs, slump buster,  zuddler, sculpzilla, peanut, hell razor craw, dead drift crayfish.

Sceirine Ranch

We did have one report from the Ranch this week, the fishing was pretty good down there for this angler. He was a bit limited on fishable water with the flows the way they are but he was able to get into some very nice fish in some of the softer slots and buckets down there. After having no success on San Juans and dead drift crayfish (which is kind of unusual) he was able to have a great day after going to a buckskin caddis and various other caddis patterns. As I’ve stated before, the fish are very healthy on the East right now and I believe that when the flows come down a bit more it’s gonna be game on!!

Hunewill Pond

We had clients on the pond this week, half of them reported not having any luck while the other half reported getting into 8 to 10 fish per half day, mainly on damsels and small leech patterns. The weeds aren’t too bad right now, the ranch staff has been out there to mow them down a couple times and are trying to keep them at bay as best they can. There are still a lot of damsels hatching but this week they didn’t seem to want to eat the adult version, just the nymph version. There’s plenty of open time slots this coming week if you want to get out there in your tube and give it a go!

Bridgeport Reservoir

Bridgeport is still doing pretty well with the more successful anglers reporting getting into 20+ fish per day on their boats. It sounds like the perch are starting to bite pretty good and we saw 2 2.5 lb Kokanee caught this week as well! There are still some anglers doing well trolling, both for the perch and the rainbows with small Rapalas, needlefish, crawlers and Thomas Bouyants. Bait anglers are doing well with pinched crawlers, mice tails, inflated crawlers and power bait, most of the bait fishing has been up in Buckeye Bay and off of Rainbow Point. It sounds like there’s been some fly anglers doing pretty well up in Buckeye Bay as well this week, damsel nymphs, rojo midges, blood midges and callibaetis nymphs should get you some hook-ups out there.

Kirman Lake

We didn’t hear anything from Kirman this week, if/when we do we’ll pass the information on.

Twin Lakes

The Twins are still kicking out some good fish as well, I wouldn’t say everyone up there is catching lots of fish but there are some anglers reporting some good rainbows up to 5+ pounds and a few nice browns up to nearly 4 pounds! Overall if you get out there and work those lakes over you should be able to get into some good fish! There are anglers reporting good luck on powerbait, mice tails and inflated crawlers, in the early mornings and evenings Thomas Bouyants and Kastmasters have been doing well. Fly anglers have been doing the best stripping wooly buggers and other leech patterns with attractor nymph droppers.

West Walker River

There’s still 3 or 4 hundred cfs of water coming down the West but the fishing has definitely been getting better. Probably within the next couple weeks the water should be down enough for the dry fly action to kick off too! Lure anglers are having success with Panther Martins and Mepps spinners, bait anglers are using salmon eggs and night crawlers as well as some power eggs. Fly anglers are going with small wooly buggers, soft hackles, prince nymphs and hares ears. As I said before, not too long before the hopper/dropper game kickes off!

 Virginia Lakes

We had some good reports from the Virginias this week and Trumbull also kicked out some really good fish this week. Anglers casting Thomas Bouyants really seemed to do well, from the shore in the early mornings and late evenings then from tubes or kayaks during the day. Bait anglers casting power bait and mice tails did well from the shore and fly anglers fishing from tubes did well with small leech patterns, soft hackles and zug bugs. Though I haven’t heard much news of it yet, now is usually the time to start fishing ant and beetle patterns on the surface, this can be very effective up there this time of the year!

July 7, 2019 - Another great 4th of July celebration is on the books for Bridgeport! The weather was great and it seemed like one of the largest crowds ever came up to Bridgeport to celebrate! Hopefully even more folks will be able to come and enjoy our little corner of the world next year!

June 23, 2019 - Yesterday was the Bridgeport Fish Enhancement’s annual fishing tournament, it was a great success! The tourney sold out a couple days ahead of time so if you plan on going in 2020 be sure to get your registration information in early so you don’t miss out! There were lots of fish in the 2 to 4 pound range weighed in with a couple over 4 pounds. We also saw stringers weighing on over 12 pounds for the day. This is a great fundraiser for the BFEF and all the money generated goes to planting more quality fish in local waters!
