Marine Industry Collaborates To Solve California 2008 Emission Compliance Issue

When California boaters register new inboard engines after January 2008, they will have to certify that the engine meets the state's 2008 CARB standards, according to a bill proposed by the Southern California Marine Association in conjunction with NMMA. By requiring that new engines meet the 2008 requirements, the legislation will prevent California residents from purchasing non-compliant engines in nearby states for use in California waters. The bill, A.B. 695, was referred on March 12 to the Committee on Transportation; however, hearings have yet to be scheduled on the measure.

California Legislature Considering 2 Percent Renewable E-Diesel Content Requirement

A bill was recently introduced in the California Senate that would require all diesel fuel sold in the state to contain at least 2% renewable diesel fuel. The bill, S.B. 140, also specifies that no later than two years after the implementation of the 2% standard, all diesel fuel sold or offered for sale in the state for use in internal combustion engines must contain at least 5% renewable diesel fuel. A hearing before the Transportation and Housing Committee is set for March 27.
