--Trail Conditions--
In a word, PERFECT! The trails are wide open and lined with wildflowers in many areas. The summer views are spectacular, and the backcountry is certainly one of the best places to enjoy a respite from the madness of 2020. Be kind, be considerate, be respectful of other hikers and enjoy some of the best hiking on the east side. Favorite day hikes include Long Lake and Treasure lakes (Bishop Pass), Lamarck Lakes (Trailhead at North Lake), Blue Lake (Sabrina Basin) and the Tyee Lakes trail.

Just a reminder that due to the repaving project on South Lake Road, OVERNIGHT PARKING IS PROHIBITED at South Lake and anywhere along South Lake Road. They have heavy machinery and lots of difference crews working 12 hours a day 5 days a week and if your car is in their way, expect it to be towed. They have done a very good job at setting up some overflow overnight parking at the Tyee Lakes Trailhead near Willow Campground which is approximately 2 miles down from the Bishop Pass Trailhead. There is also some parking below that near Surveyors Meadow.

--Fish Report-

--South Lake--
The lake level is up and the fishing conditions are excellent. This week we dropped 800lbs of chunky Rainbows from Idaho to keep things spicy. Still a ton of fish spread around and while it isn't exactly limit-style fishing, very few boats are coming back empty handed. We are also getting some very nice fish in the 2-4lb range mixed in with the usual pan-sized fare. Shore fishing has been a bit slow, but boaters, kayakers and tubers are doing best.

The launch ramp is open for private boaters but be advised that parking is limited due to the road work so parking your boat trailer at the lake is a gamble.

Hot Spots: Rock Slide, Inlets.
Hot Lures: Sierra Slammer jigs & swimbaits, Rainbow Thomas Buoyants, 1/8oz Kastmasters
Best Fliest: Grasshoppers, Midges, Bead-Head Nymphs, Blank ants.
Best Baits: Nightcrawlers, Garlic PB, Gulp Pinched Crawlers.
Trolling: Worms, needlefish, Thomas Buoyants between 5 - 10 colors.

--Weir Pond—
Hit or miss depending on who you talk to but the fish are there. Parking can be tough at times as the construction folks periodically stage gear or materials there.

--Bishop Creek--
Its feast or famine on the creek right now. With no DFW stocking and only periodic supplemental private stocks, the fish aren’t as spread out as usual. Having said that, if you find a hole that’s holding fish, they’ll be biting and it will likely be really good. We put in some quality 2-3lbers this week in both forks of the creek in addition to some pan sized models to give folks something to chase.

Access on the South Fork of Bishop Creek is mostly limited to areas within walking distance of Parchers Resort or the Creekside RV/Bishop Creek Lodge area due to road work. No parking is allowed on the road in many areas.

--Intake 2—
This small lake hasn’t been stocked in weeks so I’d spend my time elsewhere if it was me.

--North Lake—
No Reports

--Road Work Update—
Major road work continues Monday thru Friday through October. You can expect up to 30-minute delays in either direction and when leaving the resort. There is no road work on the weekends or holidays. These delays are admittedly very annoying, but for 2020 it’s not a big deal all things considered. There were 2 days of delays on 168 at the South Lake turnoff, but for the most part the delays are limited to South Lake Rd . There is NO OVERNIGHT PARKING available at the Bishop Pass Trail between July 6th and July 25th.

--Fish Stocking Update—
The DFW has temporarily quarantined the fish at our local hatcheries in the hopes that the fish and water can be treated for a bacterial outbreak. Thankfully Bishop Creek Canyon businesses and the Bishop Chamber of Commerce are doing all we can to schedule our cooperative stockings from Idaho so the fishing stays good until the DFW addresses the issue. We have also secured some fish from Oregon for South Lake, including some HUGE Rainbows to keep rods bent.

Sierrally,
The Parchers Crew
