EAST WALKER RIVER
The East is running at about 262 cfs right now and yesterday on the California side it fished excellent! We had many reports from anglers who had great days nymphing and streamer fishing down there for the opener, we even had a couple anglers who told us they had 50+ fish to the net during their time down there!! There didn’t seem to be lots of larger fish being caught but the fish in the 12 to 18 inch range were extremely active. We did hear of some fish over 20” being caught, just not a lot of them. It sounded like the fishing all the way down to Murphy’s Pond, and even further was very good. Some of the patterns we heard good news about include: poxyback stones, Pat’s rubber leg, wired stonefly, perdigon nymph, picky eater perdigon, drag queen, darth baetis, sculpzilla, ziwi, dali lama and cousin it streamer, just to name a few. Not sure what the flows will do in the coming weeks but now sure seems like a great time to be on the EW!!

Also, some food for thought, in the Fish and Wildlife Departments infinite wisdom they have decided to not make barbless hooks mandatory on the East Walker, this is absolutely going to be detrimental to the life if this amazing river in the future, if you care at all about the East Walker and its sustainability, please pinch your barbs, if everyone adheres to this practice it will help the East Walker River to keep on being a world class fishery. Thanks for your consideration.

SCEIRINE RANCH
The ranch is still fishing very well with lots of fish being caught in the 16 to 20 inch range as well as a few over the 20” mark. They’re still taking streamers and nymphs just like the California side of the river. With the higher flows it is a little more difficult to get around but it’s still very doable. Give is a call if you want to book some time on the ranch.

HUNEWILL POND
We had great reports from the pond this week with everyone we had out there having a great time and getting into very good numbers of qualityh fish. Small leech patterns and soft hackles still seem to be the best producers out there as well as a few callibaetis nymphs thrown in. Most anglers are slow stripping the leeches but another good technique is to drop leeches and small nymphs off of an indicator. Give is a call if you want to get out there and take advantage of the great fishing.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR
Well, opening day on Bridgeport was amazing! We had so many great reports from the reservoir we couldn’t even keep track! Shore anglers did great casting Rapalas and spoons early in the day and fishing bait throughout the day all the way into the evening. Trolling was amazing with lots of fish up to 8 pounds being caught on Rapalas, G-Ratt Baits, TK Lures, Thomas Bouyants and Kastmasters. Toplining seemed to be the best technique but there were lots of fish caught on lead core rigs as well. Bait anglers fishing from boats did well with mice tails, power bait, pinched crawlers and inflated crawlers. It was a great day out there and we expect more of that action to come.

KIRMAN LAKE
We didn’t hear any news yesterday from Kirman but hopefully we’ll get some info soon and we’ll let you know how it goes.

TWIN LAKES
The Twins also fished amazing yesterday! Lots and lots of fish up to 8 pounds were caught up there with most every anglers we talked to reporting having great success, both from the shore and from boats. Bait anglers did great with pinched crawlers, mice tails and night crawlers, lure anglers did great with Thomas Bouyants, G-Ratt Baits, Rapalas, Hook-Up Baits and Kastmasters. The anglers trolling caught lots of fish with Rapalas, Thomas Bouyants, KC Lures, Speedy Shiners and G-Ratt Baits. The conditions on the Twins are perfect for great action right now so it’s a great time to plan a trip!

WEST WALKER RIVER
The West is running pretty high and dirty right now, it’s ranging from around 550cfs to 1150cfs depending on the time of the day and how warm it is. This is making the fishing pretty tough. As the snow melts over the next few weeks it will likely remain like this. As the flows start to come down to more fishable levels in the coming weeks we’ll let you know.

VIRGINIA LAKES
We had excellent reports from the Virginias yesterday as well, it sounds like the ice is still about 3 feet thick and the fishing was very good. Lots of nice rainbows and some brookies made a showing for anglers both fishing bait and jigging spoons and mini jigs. We’ll try to keep up on the ice situation up there and let you know when it starts getting too thin.

RANDOM INFORMATION:
Well, this opener has definitely been one for the books! The vast majority of anglers we got to talk to had a wonderful day yesterday with many many very nice fish being caught. Here in the shop yesterday we weighed 65 BFEF tagged trout which has to be a record for just one day! All of the lakes and streams in the area produced lots of fish for anglers fishing all kinds of methods. Be sure and check out the Facebook pages for Bridgeport Reservoir Marina, Annetts Mono Village and Twin Lakes Resort, there are tons of great photos on all of their pages, too many for us to even keep up with! I think 2024 is going to be a great season, the water conditions are great and should be great for most if not all of the season! String up some new line and get out on the water!
