It’s time!!!!!!!!! The weather is warming and the water is too!

Largemouth bass start to spawn in 60-70 degree water. The moon phases also play a roll in the spawning season. With the uptick in water temp and the full moon being last night, the bass are spawning! They have started to move into shallow water to create nests. Our primitive area vegetation and dam rocks are great spots for our visiting fishermen without vessels. If you have a boat, try your luck around the island.
Smallmouth bass bass are a little more hardy, they spawn in mid 50 degree water. They will spawn in between 3 and 20 feet of water. They can be found when the water is in the mid-40s. Remember as you catch them, in SH they are a must kill species!
Even though we are a man made lake, our waters do not warm up uniformly. So not all of our fish will spawn at the same time. This will allow for a longer season as the water gradually warms up. A less aggressive bait, like a shaky head or a simple worm with little movement should be great bait. As the water warms bring their lines closer to the surface. But right now the fish are everywhere! Deep cooler waters, shallow warmer waters.
For the prey species, crappie need 60 degree water, green sunfish and bluegill need mid 70s water temperatures.
So come on down to SHSP the fish are biting!!!

have you been out on our waters yet?!
