(Fishing forecast (March–June):) Big Sand Wash Reservoir is generally 100% full by May. The water temperatures will stay cold for most of spring because of flows from the Lake Fork drainage in the High Uintas. Anglers can access the reservoir by boat at the main ramp and by small watercraft at the sportsman’s access. The DWR installs the wedge dock each spring and adjusts it two or three times per week as the water levels fluctuate. Please do not try to move the dock on your own, or you will destroy its brake system and it will be removed to make repairs. The spring fishing forecast is generally good for rainbow trout. This is a great time of year to cast jigs near the inlet area for larger rainbow and brown trout. Yellow perch and walleye spawn in the spring. Once that spawn is over (typically mid-April), walleye will begin to feed heavily on smaller fish. Smallmouth bass fishing really begins to improve as the water warms. Generally, smallmouth spawn in late May and early June. Big Sand Wash has a great number of quality smallmouth bass. Anglers can target smallmouth throughout the year using traditional techniques, such as jigs, crank baits or topwater. The current limit for walleye at Big Sand Wash is 20 fish with no size restriction. The current limit for yellow perch is 10 fish
