*Dorado, bluefin tuna and Yellowtail Party at the San Quintín Sportfishing (October 2009 Report)*

We realized our fish counts from the sportfishing catch at San Quintín, Baja California (México) during past October 17, 2009.

Our driving from Ensenada began at 07:45 am on past Saturday, and we arrived at 10:15 am to San Quintín town; after breakfast at Santa Isabel restaurant, we were riding again to the Old mill place to wait the fishing boats.

The monitoring was realized in the catch of six boats, from a number of ten boats: Fany, Fany II, Fany III, Coyote, Pelicano, and Blessed, a private boat. All boats hosted 15 fishermen.

A total of 111 fish were captured, of those 34 were Dorados, yellowtail (40), bluefin tuna (14), and some skipjacks and bonitos. The bluefin tuna reached a weight of 58 lb, the Dorados up to 18 lb, and the yellows up to 12 lb. Only one boat was fishing at bottom of the 240 spot, with limits of red rockfish, bocaccio, starry, sheephead, lingcod and ocean whitefish.

The big pelagic fishes were captured at the 73 spot, 16 miles offshore, and with a sea surface temperature of 70.6^o F. The Saturday was sunny, with light winds, and the fishing according to all anglers was EXCELLENT.

We finish our day enjoying good plates at Jardines Baja restaurant: ocean whitefish ceviche, fried clams and fried white seabass, to begin our go back drive to Ensenada at 18:00 hrs and for a safety arriving at 20:30 hrs.

Thanks to Abigail Dominguez and Jorge Montano to help in the fish measurements and weighing, both master students of the Marine Ecology Graduate program (CICESE).
