The Lower Owens is open all year; the fall and winter fishing is usually very good. The flow has been raised to 260 cfs. Could be start of DWP upping the flows. This flow is still makes for very good fishing and easy wading. Look for mayfly and caddis action during the day. Can have good action on sreamers. Try Olive, Brown, and Black Wooly Buggers. When fishing streamers will most likely get a lot more hits than landed fish. Should be seeing more surface activity during the day on midges, mayflies, and caddis. Nymph fishing with small patterns usually works well. Be prepared for all kinds of weather. Be aware of New Zealand Mud Snail problem (see opening paragraph). This area not significantly impacted by storms since the flow is controlled out of Pleasant Valley Reservoir. With any storm activity the access roads will be muddy. Cars can get stuck.
