Lower Owens River Fish Report 06-19-07

Owens River - CA

6-19-2007

Flows are fluctuating between 450 and 475cfs and we have been told they will hold around here for a while.?? Wading is difficult in the wild trout section at this release, and not possible in the lower sections.?? There are solid caddis hatches if you are adamant about fishing this area (dark bodies #16-18) We suggest you hit the lower light periods of the day when the sun is not above the crests of the White Mountains or the High Sierras.?? Dry fly opportunities are your best bet in the larger pools and slower back waters.?? It has been very warm in the Owens Valley and this trend will continue throughout the summer.

The drift boat sections did not fish well last week with the rising flows and hot days, but we have had better conditions and good scores the last few days as the levels have stabilized with the fish adjusting to the new levels. If the flows remain constant we will be suggesting half day trips in the mornings or evenings during the optimum feeding periods.?? Streamers are still the best bet using the "dip and strip" method.?? Loebergs and Spruce-A-Bu's are the hot flies currently.

"Two Bug" Doug Dolan drifted with the fly fishing Tannehill's and they had a fine day catching a mix of quality rainbows and browns on streamer patterns.?? Two Bug holds a nice rainbow for Kevin prior to releasing the slab side. Click on www.sierradrifters.com/fish.html .
