Convict Lake is fishing well this week with several 4 lb catches coming and should get even better for the weekend. We're expecting a chance of thunderstorms over the next few days. Water temps are warm, so the fish are gathering in the lower colder depths. Use 4-6 lb. test line and attach a 5-6 foot leader from a fillable bubble and swivel barrel for best results. Bait fishing is best in the early morning, especially before it gets too light. As the day grows brighter, fish start looking for their favorite food - bugs - so fly anglers get more action. Nightcrawlers are the hot ticket this week with Berkley Gulp Chunky Cheese still going stron. Best lures are Thomas Buoyant Watermelon & Kastmaster lures in gold with red or silver with blue. Flies in olive, purple and black and the marvel fly, Sierra pattern-size 8 are working all over the lake.
