The Madison River remains the best bet around for dry fly, nymph and streamer fishing. The river in the Park continues to offer up great PMD spinner action 8-10am and duns come off then too. Evening caddis action is grand near the junction. The river between the lakes has fished well during the day when green drakes and PMD's emerge along with salmon flies and golden stones. Evening action is strong when a few species of caddis emerge from 8-10p.m. The best fishing though is from Slide downstream to Ennis. Salmon flies, golden stones, a couple species of mayflies and more than a couple caddis species can be counted on to bring the fish to the surface. Midge action is strong in the early morning along with egg-laying caddis. If I had to pick a dozen go-to flies they'd include: Iris Caddis (tan and amber), X and X2 Caddis tan #14-16, Hi Vis Rusty Spinner #14-16, #16 PMD Cripple, Chubby Chernobyl #10-12, Shop Vac with and without bead head, Egg-Laying Caddis, Krystal and original $3 Dips, #10 Tim's Soft Hackle Stone Nymph and you are set for the week!
