Our regular reporter, Ms. Kitcia Ceja, is on vacation and we were fortunate to get a quick report from the Fleet Manager and Dock Master, Geronimo Cevallos, reflecting some very decent fishing this past week and for now, a zero effect from Tropical Storm Carlos, still hovering just below Puerto Vallarta. According to Geronimo, the fishing last week was excellent and included 4 blue marlin, (all in the 200-250 lb. ranges) 8 sailfish, (all released) and 24 dorado, (12-15 lb. average). He added that the inshore super pangas produced very good catches of triggerfish, snappers and near limits on permits. Geronimo said we should be seeing an increase in the catching this coming week as the area is coming alive with an influx of bait and birdlife over a wide offshore area.

Mazatlan Climate: It was a partly cloudy week with intermittent sunshine and temps that ranged from 73 nights to 88 daytime highs and a 78% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Sea surface conditions nearly flat calm with surface breezes flowing in from the south westerly directions to about 10-11 mph and sea temps at 84-85 degrees throughout the area.

Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 16 miles south of the Marina El Cid and working outbound from there. Excellent clarity in the offshore fishing area.

Best Lure/Bait: Mackerel colors, (green, black) working best on the blue marlin and freshly rigged baits working best on the sailfish. Dorado taking smaller artificials and live baits.

Bait Supply: Very good bait supply for both, fresh rigging baits and for live bait. Live bait remains at $1.00 per bait paid direct to the bait vendor at time of receipt.

So far, so good as we have dodged a couple of "bullets" in the early part of the hurricane season and only need to continue with the progress. So far, it's been a mostly sunny and clear week with air temps...... Read More
