Situated just north of Yuma, Mittry Lake is a 750-acre warm-water fishery that offers outstanding angling opportunities in a desert wetland environment. Known for its healthy largemouth bass population, the lake supports consistent catches in the 3–6 pound range, particularly around brush, reeds, and submerged structures. Soft plastics, jigs, and topwater lures are especially effective during spring and fall.

Mittry also supports strong crappie fishing during cooler months, and bluegill are abundant year-round, offering fun action for bank anglers and kids. Channel catfish are a staple catch, with cut bait or stink bait performing well when fished near deeper channels or under heavy vegetation.

Multiple boat ramps, including Betty’s Kitchen and Senator Wash, provide easy access for boats and kayaks. The lake is shallow, with expansive weed growth, making it ideal for kayak anglers and those using trolling motors. While gas engines are permitted, careful navigation is necessary.

There are no use fees or permits beyond standard fishing licenses, and the area follows statewide warm-water regulations. Anglers should prepare for high summer temperatures and plan early or late-day outings accordingly.

Beyond the fishing, Mittry Lake is rich in wildlife, making it a popular location for camping, birdwatching, and nature photography. Its diverse fishery and year-round access make it a premier fishing destination in southern Arizona.
