Hawley Lake - Alpine,

Lake Information

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout
Hawley Lake, located on White Mountain Apache Tribal land near Alpine, AZ, is a 260-acre alpine fishery offering seasonal angling for rainbow trout, brown trout, and brook trout. The lake sits at 8,200 feet and benefits from cool temperatures, ideal for supporting coldwater species.

Fishing at Hawley Lake requires a tribal permit, available online or from reservation outlets, and is open to non-tribal members. The lake is typically ice-free from late spring through fall, with ice fishing permitted during winter when conditions allow.

Rainbow trout are stocked regularly and respond to PowerBait, worms, and spinners. Brown and brook trout, which are less common but naturally reproducing, are typically caught on flies or small lures. Fly anglers use leeches, woolly buggers, and midges for the best success.

Boating is allowed with electric motors only. A boat ramp and seasonal boat rentals are available. While shore fishing is possible, the most productive areas are often reached via kayak, canoe, or float tube.

Campgrounds and rental cabins are available seasonally, and a small tribal-run store offers limited supplies. Due to its remote setting, anglers are advised to check weather and road conditions.

Hawley Lake is one of Arizona’s most scenic and high-performing alpine trout fisheries and offers exceptional solitude and beauty in the White Mountains.
