Mayfield Lake - Salkum, WA

Lake Information

Fish Species: Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass
Mayfield Lake, a 2,200-acre reservoir in Lewis County, is a year-round fishing hotspot offering a wide range of angling opportunities. Known best for its population of tiger muskies, the lake also supports rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, and smallmouth bass.

Tiger muskies are the standout species here. These toothy predators, introduced to help control pikeminnow populations, draw anglers looking for a serious challenge. Catching one requires patience, heavy gear, and large lures. Focus your efforts on the Tilton River arm and weed beds near Ike Kinswa State Park.

Mayfield also sees consistent rainbow trout action, thanks to regular WDFW stocking. Trout are accessible to both boaters and shore anglers, with PowerBait and worms effective from land and trolling spoons or wedding rings working well on the move.

Kokanee fishing peaks in late spring and early summer. These landlocked sockeye salmon school in deep water and respond to small dodgers and corn-tipped lures at 25–40 feet.

Smallmouth bass are another strong option, especially around rocky shorelines and submerged structure. Drop shotting and crankbaits yield good results from May through September.

Access is excellent, with ramps at both the dam and Ike Kinswa State Park. Anglers must observe strict tiger musky regulations, including the 50-inch minimum size limit.
