Lake Sammamish - Redmond, WA

Lake Information

Fish Species: Chilipepper, Cutthroat Trout, Steelhead, Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Kokanee Salmon, Smallmouth Bass, Brown Bullhead, Yellow Perch
Lake Sammamish, just east of Seattle, is a prime destination for anglers seeking a variety of fishing opportunities in an urban setting. Spanning over 4,800 acres, the lake is best known for its healthy cutthroat trout fishery, abundant smallmouth bass, and seasonal kokanee salmon.

Cutthroat trout are available year-round, with spring and fall offering the best action. Trolling spoons, plugs, or streamer flies near drop-offs and along the east shoreline consistently yields results. These native trout grow large thanks to an ample forage base.

Smallmouth bass dominate the warmwater scene, especially in rocky areas and along the lake’s northern end. Largemouth bass can also be found near vegetation and docks. Perch and sunfish add to the action, offering fast-paced fun for light tackle anglers and families.

From late spring into early summer, kokanee salmon become a target for anglers trolling small hoochies or spinner rigs behind dodgers at depth. Though not as numerous as in nearby systems, they provide a seasonal bonus.

Boat access is excellent from Lake Sammamish State Park, with ample shoreline options as well. Motorized boats are allowed, but summer weekends bring heavy recreational traffic.

Lake Sammamish blends year-round productivity, accessibility, and species diversity, making it a go-to fishery for anglers across skill levels. Always check WDFW rules for current limits and gear requirements.
