Fish Species: Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, Golden Trout
The Raymond Lake Trail near Markleeville, California, offers a challenging 17.7-mile out-and-back route that takes about 8 hours and 24 minutes to complete. This trail is ideal for backpacking, camping, and fishing, with plenty of scenic spots along the way. It’s a relatively quiet trail, meaning you're likely to enjoy some solitude during your hike, especially since it’s less crowded than many other routes. The best time to visit is between June and October, when weather conditions are optimal.

Starting from Blue Lakes Road, the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) takes you south, passing several lakes along the way, perfect for stopping and fishing. A spur trail leads from the PCT directly to Raymond Lake, a stunning destination situated at an elevation of 9,000 feet. While this remote spot offers beautiful views and a tranquil atmosphere, keep in mind that fires are not permitted above 8,000 feet in this area.

The trail is also dog-friendly, though pets must be kept on a leash. Prepare for a physically demanding hike, and make sure to bring enough supplies for a day out in the wilderness. Whether you’re looking to fish, camp, or simply enjoy the peaceful beauty of the Sierra Nevada, the Raymond Lake Trail is a rewarding adventure.
