San Carlos Lake - Peridot, AZ

Lake Information

Fish Species: Channel Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, Redear Sunfish, Flathead Catfish
San Carlos Lake, located on the San Carlos Apache Reservation near Peridot, AZ, is one of Arizona’s largest and most dynamic warm-water fisheries. Water levels fluctuate significantly depending on seasonal conditions, but when full, the lake spans over 19,500 acres and provides outstanding fishing for largemouth bass, channel catfish, and flathead catfish.

Largemouth bass fishing peaks in spring, with anglers targeting submerged brush and rocky cover using soft plastics, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits. Trophy-class bass over 10 pounds have been recorded. Flathead and channel catfish are abundant, especially at night, with cut bait or live bluegill producing excellent results.

Sunfish, carp, and occasional crappie round out the species list. Most productive fishing is done by boat, as shoreline access is limited when water levels are low. A valid San Carlos fishing permit is required—Arizona state licenses do not apply. Tribal fishing regulations and boating rules must be followed.

Primitive camping is permitted in designated areas, but anglers should come fully supplied due to minimal on-site services. Fishing is best in spring and fall, though year-round opportunities exist depending on water availability.

San Carlos Lake offers a remote, productive fishery with excellent trophy bass and catfish potential, ideal for experienced anglers seeking a less-crowded, high-reward desert lake.
