Loon Lake - Loon Lake, WA

Lake Information

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Mackinaw Trout, Kokanee Salmon, Green Sunfish, Brown Bullhead, Tiger Trout, Yellow Perch, Pumpkinseed
Loon Lake in Stevens County is a large, year-round fishery that offers excellent kokanee salmon and lake trout opportunities, along with perch and bass. Just north of Spokane, it’s a favored destination for anglers seeking variety in a beautiful mountain setting.

Kokanee are most active from late spring through early summer. Trolling with small dodgers and hoochies tipped with corn at 30–60 feet deep is the standard method. Mornings are most productive, especially with sonar to find schools.

Lake trout, or mackinaw, are trophy-sized and caught by trolling deep or jigging near drop-offs. These fish are targeted in late summer and early fall when they move deeper.

Yellow perch provide consistent action for all skill levels. Use worms or small jigs over mud flats. Largemouth bass are more active in summer and respond to topwater and spinnerbaits near weedlines.

Public access is excellent, including a WDFW boat launch and multiple private resorts. Ice fishing for perch and trout is possible in colder winters.

Loon Lake’s deep, cold water and excellent facilities make it one of the region’s best multi-species lakes. Check WDFW regulations before heading out, especially for kokanee and mackinaw limits.
