Soup Bowl Reservoir - Ephraim, UT

Lake Information

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout, Tiger Trout
Soup Bowl Reservoir, located near Ephraim, Utah, in the Manti-La Sal National Forest, is a quiet, high-elevation lake offering consistent trout fishing in a remote alpine setting. At nearly 9,500 feet elevation, it is stocked with rainbow trout by the Utah DWR and also holds brook trout and occasional tiger trout.

Shoreline access is excellent, and the lake is easily fished from the bank. Anglers using PowerBait, worms, spinners, or small spoons regularly hook into rainbows, while fly fishers succeed with woolly buggers, nymphs, and dry flies during insect hatches. A float tube is optional but not required due to the lake’s modest size.

Soup Bowl is typically accessible from late June through early October. Primitive camping is available nearby, and the area is popular for multi-lake excursions including Petes Hole and Grassy Lake. Fishing pressure is light, especially on weekdays.

Be prepared for changing mountain weather and bring all needed supplies. Anglers should review the Utah Fishing Guidebook for regulations, though Soup Bowl generally follows statewide trout rules.

For those seeking scenic solitude and fast trout action in Utah’s backcountry, Soup Bowl Reservoir provides a satisfying and accessible experience within reach of the Skyline Drive corridor.
